I remember this drink started to appear in the hawker centers in the 1980s. Prior to that the fruit stalls sold just simple fruit juices and cut fruits. The papaya milk drink is the harbinger of more great drinks from these hawkers. From ABC (apple, beetroot and carrot), to banana milk and more creative health juices at $2 each.
Here’s my very simple version of papaya milk. Using this recipe, you can also be like that fruit stall uncle and create more interesting and healthy drinks for your family.
Papaya Milk
Ingredients
- 2 slices or more if you like of very ripe Papaya (can be any non-citrus fruit: banana, mango, strawberries, peaches, honey dew, melons etc etc)
- 1 cup Milk can be any kind of milk: almond, soya, cow, goat, cashew nut milk, etc
- 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup can be any kind of sweetener: honey, sugar, fruit jam, condensed milk, maltese etc
Instructions
- Put them into a really strong blender. Woosh until smooth. That's it!
- Enough for 2 people who eat like Singaporeans.
