What is in our name?

秀梅 is my mother’s Chinese name. My grandmother gave her this name in the hope that she will own a business one day.

My grandmother thinks that the epitome of a successful business woman is to own a tailor shop, and most tailor shops have the name 秀 (xiĂš) meaning “luxuriant, beautiful, elegant, outstanding”. This word also has the same pronunciation as 督 which means to sew.

梅 (mei – Chinese / ume – Japanese) means the plum blossom which symbolizes perseverance and hope, as well as beauty, purity, and the transitoriness of life.

In Confucianism, the plum blossom stands for the principles and values of virtue.

Through Mei, we hope to bring Asian cooking to the next level for novice cooks through well researched technologies and well designed kitchen cookware. We hope to help home cooks maximize the results and minimize the time in the kitchen.
